Symptoms
On import of the template with roles, the groups within the WebCenter that shares names with those roles are overwritten by the roles, i.e. the groups no longer exist.
On import of the groups (back up from same or other system via export), the roles by the same names are overwritten.
Impacts:
- Re-creation of groups manually means repopulating those groups with the appropriate personnel. Depending on the size of the group that could be significant
- After import of Groups that overwrite roles, the template and existing projects from that template are in a very 'confused' state.
- The template now has groups instead of roles, but project creation, still treats them like a role as it will push values of attributes into the 'matching' roles even though they are groups in the template
- Previously create projects show groups in the project (but none of the impacted roles), but invited users to the roles still show as role assignments even though the role does not exist.
- Managing roles is also impossible because although the invitees are designated to roles, the manage role window does not show those roles.
- If the groups were never reimported but were replaced by roles by the template import, another behavior is induced. During project creation from a template, if an attribute that should assign members to a role is left blank, all member of the now non-existent group are assigned to the role in question, but do not show up anywhere in the project (and neither does the group itself since it doesn’t exist) and cannot be removed from the project. If you go to the user and search for projects they are members of, the project in question will show up, but if you attempt to uninvite them, nothing happens. They simply cannot be removed from the project. This is the behavior that triggered the whole exploration as it caused people that were not meant to be invited to projects to receive notifications for project creation, even though there was no way to actually see that they were in the project in the first place except to do the search stated previously.
